Naidu’s Vision 2047: A Boon Or Bane For TDP?

TDP boss and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu released the Vision 2047 document in Vizag on the 77th Independence Day yesterday and said he was committed to putting Andhra Pradesh on the path of development.

Immediately, it reminded the citizens of Vision 2020, which he released in 1996.

Claiming the development of Hyderabad, which was the capital of united Andhra Pradesh, Naidu, in the past, said that it happened only due to his Vision 2020 document.

However, his detractors said that Hyderabad developed into a cosmopolitan city, as it had remained as a capital for a long time since the Nizams. Of course, he did lay the foundation for the development of Hyderabad as a tech hub but the ecosystem had developed over the years. Little did he do for the development of the ecosystem, they said.

Naidu releases such vision documents with an aim to garner votes but it is doubtful if he would get the desired result. When he released the Vision 2020 document but in the immediate election in 2004, the TDP lost, observed political analysts.

Naidu releases the vision documents with a deadline of more than a decade by which time, people will easily forget what has been mentioned in the document. Moreover, such documents will establish little connect with the poor as they are more concerned with freebies than long term plans, they pointed out.

Meanwhile, the literates, who can understand the lofty goals mentioned in the vision documents, rarely go to the polling booths to exercise their franchise, as they firmly believe that none of the political parties do any good to them. Neither are there any freebies or subsidies for the salaried class. It is only the poor and rich who can reap some benefits from the elections. The middle-class which mainly comprises the salaried section gains nothing in the elections.

In such a situation, what is the purpose of these vision documents, they asked.

At the same time, political observers also reminded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi too released Vision 2047 in July, to mark the 100 years of India’s Independence. Probably, Naidu took a cue from this and included all his imaginary goals into it, they added.
