Rajasthan’s sports minister, Ashok Chandna, committed a significant blunder by praising the “passengers on Chandrayaan-3,” during celebrations of the successful lunar landing. The spacecraft’s Vikram lander carries the rover Pragyan, not passengers, leading to widespread mockery.
Chandna’s comment triggered humorous responses online, with some questioning his scientific understanding. Chandrayaan-3’s accomplishment of a successful soft landing at the moon’s south pole marked a historic milestone for India and ISRO.
ISRO’s headquarters erupted in cheers as the Vikram lander began its descent. Prime Minister Modi, attending the BRICS Summit, watched the live telecast, waving the national flag with pride.
ISRO officially celebrated the successful landing, stating, “‘India, I reached my destination and you too!’: Chandrayaan-3.” The mission’s focus on lunar geology, water resources, and potential for human exploration showcases India’s growing space capabilities.
