TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh made it clear that their party would maintain equal distance from both the BJP and the I.N.D.I.A, alliance of the opposition parties.
The INDIA bloc parties expressed their support to the TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest but Lokesh said that they would remain non-aligned. “We stand for the rights of the Telugus,” he said in an interview with an English daily.
Lokesh is in Delhi to gain support for his father’s arrest and subsequent judicial remand but he said that he did not contact any BJP leader.
There is information that the TDP MPs had sought appointment with the president, Prime Minister, Home minister and the home secretary to brief them about the wrongful arrest of their leader N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The TDP boss was arrested in the early hours of September 9 in connection with alleged involvement in Rs 371-crore Skill Development scam.
Following the arrest, INDIA block leaders, including West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah, Samajwadi Party head Akhilesh Yadav and former BJP ally Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed their support to Naidu and termed the YCP government’s action as ‘vendetta politics’.
It may be recalled that Naidu played a pivotal role in uniting the opposition parties at the natioanl level during the 2019 parliamentary polls but this time, he is keeping himself away from the opposition parties’ attempt to form a united front to confront the BJP in the upcoming general polls.
