The BJP appears to be taking Telangana seriously this time. A series of high-profile visits at crucial times by the party’s top leadership and a renewed focus on strengthening the organisation clearly indicate that the party is preparing for a bigger political battle in the state.
It all started with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Telangana in May, during which he made a major announcement related to crisis management including Petrol, Diesel and Gold usage and strengthening the party’s political strategy in the state.
Later, BJP national president Nitin Nabin visited Telangana and reportedly took a serious review of the party’s affairs, holding local leaders accountable and giving them a clear message to improve their performance. Reports also suggested that he pulled up several leaders over the party’s organisational functioning.
A few weeks ago, the party further tightened its organisational structure, issuing strict instructions to Telangana in-charge and co-in-charges to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and ensure better coordination among leaders.
Now, Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit has added another dimension to the BJP’s Telangana strategy. His visit is not limited to an organisational meeting. The party has also planned a massive public rally, apparently to counter Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc’s campaign against SIR and the CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
The timing and scale of these visits are significant. From the Prime Minister’s intervention to the national leadership’s direct involvement and now Amit Shah’s public outreach, the BJP seems determined to put its Telangana unit in order.
Clearly, this is not just another round of routine political visits. The BJP appears to be sending a strong message that Telangana is firmly on its political radar this time.
Whether this renewed focus will translate into electoral gains remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the BJP does not seem to be taking Telangana lightly anymore.
