In a significant development in the Nagarjuna Sagar dispute, an FIR has been registered against the Andhra Pradesh (AP) Police at Nagarjunasagar Police Station based on a complaint filed by the Telangana Special Protection Force (SPF) Police. The FIR also implicates irrigation officers from the state of Telangana. The complaint alleges unauthorized entry by AP police at night, destruction of CCTV cameras, and the release of water into the right canal without permission.
The tension has entered its second day near Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, with both Telangana and AP police patrolling the area amid the presence of barbed wire fences. Heavy deployment of police is observed on both sides of the Sagar Dam project. In the previous day’s incident, AP officers released water into the right canal.
Both the Telangana and AP governments are actively seeking information on the situation near the Nagarjunasagar project. Smita Sabharwal is overseeing the condition of constables injured in the AP police attack and the damaged CCTV cameras. Criticism is directed at the AP government for allegedly disregarding the rules of the Krishna River Management Board. IG-level officials from both states are anticipated to assess the situation.
