Brother & Sister Spice Up AP Politics

There is a new dynamic in Andhra Pradesh politics after YS Sharmila entered the scene. A two-way clash of Jagan Vs Chandra Babu & Pawan Kalyan has become a three-way clash of Jagan Vs Naidu & Pawan Vs Sharmila. The newly established clash between the brother-sister duo of Jagan and Sharmila is the most discussed aspect of AP politics at this point.

Jagan and Sharmila are openly having a go at each other as Jagan says Congress is dividing his family for their gains and Sharmila counters it by saying Jagan himself is the reason behind the division of the family.

Sharmila is calling out Jagan’s alleged sand, liquor, and mining mafia and calling him a play doll in the hands of BJP. On the contrary, Jagan is saying Sharmila is strategically planted against him by Chandra Babu and Congress.

AP polls were already gaining traction with the clash between the YCP and the TDP-JSP alliance. Congress was virtually lifeless before Sharmila’s entry but with Sharmila adding to their ranks, the party has found new life. The political clash between the brother and sister has meant that AP polls are seeing a new dynamic.

In 2019, Jagan was aggressively supported by Sharmila and she was famously called “Jagananna Vadlina Baanam”. Her “Bye Bye Babu” campaign against Chandra Babu caught on very well then. No one can deny that Sharmila had a role in YCP’s victory in 2019.

But in less than 5 years, Sharmila has gone from “Jagan Anna” to “Jagan Reddy” and gone from campaigning for YCP to calling to bring down Jagan. The vocal wars between the brother and sister is being closely observed by the people of the Telugu states, and more so by AP voters.

Sharmila’s entry right before the AP polls has meant that YCP has to deal with more opponents than they were prepared for. YCP’s Anil Yadav, Perni Nani, Roja, Sajjala, YV Subba Reddy, Gudivada Amarnath, Kodali Nani, and others have already given Sharmila a feeler of their verbal assault for standing against Jagan. She will have to endure more such assaults in the next few weeks.

As of now, everyone is interested in seeing the brother-sister duo spice up AP politics with their non-stop verbal assaults. But Jagan and Sharmila will have to be watchful that this is a state election that they are campaigning for and not a family debate to decide who has the upper hand. People will vote only based on merits and perceptions, and not on family emotions.
