No Runa Maafi, Jagan Confirms

Farmer loan waiver scheme is usually a game changer for any political party before the elections as promising a Runa Maafi(loan waiver) changed the fate of many parties in the past. With the AP elections approaching, there is speculation on whether YCP or TDP-Janasena will announce Runa Maafi.

It was rumored among the YCP camp that CM YS Jagan might announce the loan waiver program in the recent Siddham event in Raptadu. But that did not happen as Jagan skipped any such announcement.

Jagan has now assertively confirmed his party cadre and leaders in yesterday’s meeting that he has no plans of announcing Runa Maafi. “I can’t promise what I can’t do. Implementing the loan waiver schemes is not economically viable for the state finances.” Jagan told YCP leaders in the meeting and he put an end to the speculation that the YSR Congress would announce a farmer loan waiver as a last gasp attempt before the elections.

Given the state of AP’s finances with all the loan burden, imposing a loan waiver is practically impossible and Jagan has stayed away from this idea.
