Revanth calls for unity among Telugus

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy called upon the Telugus to work unitedly, though separated by boundaries in different states. He expressed concern that Telugus were not playing a prominent role in the national politics and opined that such a tragic situation could have cropped up due to part-time politicians.

The elected representatives are more busy with their businesses full time and looking towards the people only for a brief period. This could possibly be a reason, he said.

Revanth Reddy was speaking after unveiling “Governorpet to Governor House” written by former Tamil Nadu Governor and former Tamil DGP PS Rammohan Rao.

He expressed hope that the book will turn out to be a political thriller, he said.

At one time, Sanjeeva Reddy, PV Narasimha Rao and NT Rama Rao ruled national politics. In the next generation, Jaipal Reddy and M. Venkaiah Naidu tried to maintain the tradition. “Now, there is none to represent the Telugus and the people are clueless about whom to approach once they land in the national capital.”

This will have an effect on the respect of the Telugus and it is time the intelligentsia think about a proper solution to this, Reddy said.

Telugus should have a significant role in the 5 trillion economy being projected by the Centre. They should be able to influence others in the decision-making process.

Telugu is the second mostly spoken language only to Hindi in the nation but sadly, it is not the same when it comes to influencing the national politics, he lamented.

Earlier, if the President post was occupied by politicians from the North, Prime Minister post used to be from the South. Of the five key Cabinet portfolios, three used to be represented by the South politicians. There used to be a balance between the North and South. That is lacking these days, he pointed out.

Intellectuals should ponder about the solution to the imbalance, he said.

Revanth Reddy said that politicians should understand how to respond to national and regional issues.

When former PM PV Narasimha Rao contested from Nandyal, NT Rama Rao abstained from fielding a rival from his party.
Such healthy and competent attitude will fetch good results. The Congress government is ready to adopt and follow good practices, he affirmed.
