Following the death of six-year-old Lakshita by a leopard while trekking to Tirumala along with her family in August last year, the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) officials caught hold of five leopards, with the help of forest officers.
Of them, three had been released into the Seshachalam forest and the other in the Nallamala forest in Kurnool. The remaining one, which was caught just four days after the attack, had been lodged in the SV Zoo Park.
Officials drew to the conclusion that the leopard put under captivation in SV Zoo Park was behind the attack on Lakshita basing on the blood, saliva and DNA samples found on the dead girl. The officials have decided to continue putting the animal in permanent captivity in the zoo.
Meanwhile, there is criticism against YCP government that it had been successful in catching the animal behind Lakshita’s death but not the murderer of former minister and the CM’s uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy.
It has been nearly five years since Vivekanda Reddy was brutally murdered but till now, there is no headway in the case. YCP MP YS Avinash Reddy, his father Bhaskar Reddy and others were named accused but no action has been initiated against the guilty so far. Meanwhile, there is buzz that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is protecting the accused by bribing the CBI officials.
