Why Roja Is Silent On ‘Rushikonda Palace’?

On Sunday, people in Andhra Pradesh were all agog when the unseen visuals of the controversial ‘Rushikonda’ palace in Vishakapatnam, built by the previous government with an approximate cost of 500 crores, surfaced on social media and new channels.

What shocked many is the fact that crores of government money were squandered to accommodate the residence of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy instead of using it for tourism activity as initially projected by the previous government.

While Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to bear the brunt of the public outcry on this outrageous abuse of power, former tourism minister Roja Selvamani is also facing the ire from all quarters. D

espite stern criticism from the then opposition parties and the intervention of the AP High Court against the demolition of the tourism hilltop resorts in Rushikonda, Roja, in the capacity of tourism minister, granted all necessary permissions to go ahead with the idea of constructing this sumptuous building.

Despite an all-out attack from all corners for wasting crores of money, Roja is maintaining stoic silence on the issue. In fact, she is the one who silently opened the palace a few months ago, before the elections.

In one of her press interactions, she openly stated that the building would serve as the official CM residence in his second term. But she hasn’t responded yet to the public outrage after the inside visuals came out.

Meanwhile, the YSRCP contends that it was built for official purposes to accommodate dignitaries visiting our state.
