Who Will Get Vijaya Sai Reddy’s MP Seat?

YCP Sr Leader Vijaya Sai Reddy, who today resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat, still has a tenure of over three and a half years left in his position, which was set to last until June 21, 2028.

With his resignation, he becomes the fourth Rajya Sabha member from the YSR Congress party to step down. Rajya Sabha members are elected by state assembly MLAs, and based on the strength of the coalition, each seat typically goes to a party within the alliance. The question now is which party within the coalition will claim Reddy’s seat.

Political experts believe that the BJP is most likely to gain this seat, despite only having eight MLAs in the state. This is largely due to the BJP’s national power and political influence. Moreover, the BJP has already secured one Rajya Sabha seat from Andhra Pradesh, which was given to R. Krishnayya, a former YSR Congress MP, who joined the BJP and was re-elected to Rajya Sabha.

Amidst the political speculation, a significant discussion has emerged regarding who from the BJP will get the seat. One strong contender is former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and senior BJP leader, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. BJP is aiming to strengthen its base in the Rayalaseema region, which is considered a stronghold of the opposition YSR Congress. If Kiran Kumar Reddy is given this seat, it would help the BJP solidify its position in the region, as well as improve its overall presence in Andhra Pradesh.

Sources suggest that Kiran Kumar Reddy may also be appointed as the Andhra Pradesh BJP president, further boosting the party’s prospects in the state. This strategy would allow the BJP to create a robust foundation in Rayalaseema, with Kiran Kumar Reddy playing a key role in strengthening the party’s influence.
