Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella proudly claimed that he is the ‘product of the bond’ between India and US. He was addressing a gathering of top US government officials and American lawmakers hosted by the Consulate General of India in Seattle, commemorating India’s 76th Republic Day. The US government officials and lawmakers lauded the Indian community’s contribution to their country.
Nadella and Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson were the Guests of Honour at the programme, attended by nearly 500 people from the Indian-American community.
Nadella praised the leadership of both the nations for forging relations to make the best of technology in leveraging education outcomes, health, public service efficiency and productivity of small businesses. This statement gains significance in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s policy shift on birthright citizenship, which could cast an influence on the H1-B visa holders, a majority of whom are Indians.
The policy proposed by Trump could also have implications for US companies, specially the technology firms, that rely heavily on foreign talent. Trump’s conservative policy is likely to affect both Indians and the tech firms that depend on their services.
In the wake of this scenario, Nadella’s statement could be advocating for consideration of Trump’s policy towards Indian immigrants.
