The political heat in Tamilnadu is getting intense, with actor Vijay aggressively intensifying his political campaigns. However, the opinion in political circles says that it is nearly impossible for new entrants—film stars or individuals from other fields—to secure a complete majority and seize power independently. For people like Pawan Kalyan, it almost took a decade to get to power, and the road to success was not very easy for him. With Powerstar Pawan emerging as a big mass leader in the South and recognition in the center, Vijay is feeling ‘Power’ pressure.
Pawan Kalyan contested alone under the Janasena party in 2019 and suffered a significant defeat. Realizing the ground reality, Pawan formed an alliance with TDP and BJP. In the end, he secured the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the ruling coalition.
A similar debate is unfolding in Tamil Nadu. Vijay recently launched his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. To strengthen his campaign, Vijay has enlisted the expertise of political strategist Prashant Kishor.
With DMK in power and AIADMK maintaining a solid opposition with over 25% vote share, Prashant Kishor has reportedly advised Vijay that winning a majority outright is highly unlikely. Even if TVK garners 20% of the vote, it may not be enough to establish itself as the main opposition, let alone claim victory.
Given this, Prashant Kishor is believed to have suggested that Vijay consider aligning with AIADMK. According to this strategy, the combined vote share of AIADMK and TVK—along with minor party support—could be enough to defeat DMK and form the next government.
Under this arrangement, AIADMK leader Edappadi Palanisamy could become Chief Minister. Vijay could take the Deputy CM post. However, Vijay is reportedly hesitant about this proposal.
Having entered politics with the ambition of winning independently, he is now at a crossroads. Vijay must decide whether to follow a path similar to Pawan Kalyan’s or take the risk of going solo. Whatever it may be, ‘Powerstar’ Pressure will significantly grow as the polls approach the state.
