MLA Spits Paan On Assembly Carpet, UP Speaker Reprimands Him

Uttar Pradesh Speaker Satish Mahana reprimanded an MLA, saying that some Assembly members spit in the Vidhan Sabha Hall, after consuming pan masala.

Before the commencement of the House today, the Speaker addressed the members and said that he had personally cleaned the area after being informed about it.

Mahana said that he had seen the MLA involved in the act in a video but did not name the individual to avoid public humiliation.

He said that he got information that one of the members had spit after consuming pan masala. He said that he got it cleaned and also saw the MLA in the video but do not want to humiliate him by taking his name.

He urged all the members that if they see anyone doing the same in the Vidhan Sabha, they should stop them. It is the responsibility of the MLAs to keep the Assembly clean, he said.

If the MLA in question comes and tells me that they have done this, it will be good. Else, he said he would summon him.

In a video during the cleaning, the Speaker is heard saying that money should be taken from the member responsible to replace the carpet.
