The explosive speech by Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan at the Pithapuram meeting yesterday had multiple attention grabbing points. One of these was his comment against Tamil folk opposing Hindi language.
“I do not understand why some criticize Sanskrit. Why do Tamil Nadu politicians oppose Hindi while allowing their movies to be dubbed in Hindi for financial gain? They want money from Bollywood but refuse to accept Hindi—what kind of logic is that?” Kalyan stated.
This quickly transcended into a huge controversy as certain Tamil affiliated handles spread a narrative that Pawan Kalyan is promoting Hindi imposition which is a part of NDA’s agenda. Also, an earlier speech of Kalyan from a few years back, where he opposes Hindi imposition was categorically shared to belittle him now.
However, Kalyan has reacted on the same now and clarified it for once and for all.
“Either imposing a language forcibly or opposing a language blindly; both doesn’t help to achieve the objective of National &Cultural integration of our Bharat. I had never opposed Hindi as a language. I only opposed making it compulsory. When the NEP 2020 itself does not enforce Hindi, spreading false narratives about its imposition is nothing but an attempt to mislead the public.
As per NEP 2020, students have the flexibility to learn any two Indian languages (including their mother tongue) along with a foreign language. If they do not wish to study Hindi, they can and also, or any other Indian language.” Kalyan tweeted.
