DMK’s counter attack on Pawan Kalyan

Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan’s “don’t dub Tamil movies in Hindi” comments while attacking the Tamil Nadu government for opposing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the three-language policy proposed by the BJP have begun to cause a stir in political circles. Pawan lambasted the DMK government at the Janasena Jayakethanam event in Pithapuram on Friday evening.

In his speech, Pawan wondered why the Tamil Nadu government opposes Hindi in the state while it allows Tamil filmmakers to dub their movies in Hindi and release them in North India. “If you oppose Hindi, then don’t hire Hindi actors and technicians and release your movies in Bihar, UP, and Chhattisgarh for their money,” he added.

In a strong counter, DMK party’s senior leader TKS Elangovan said that Tamil Nadu first opposed Hindi imposition in the state back in 1938. “In 1968, the Tamil Nadu state assembly had passed legislation that ruled that Tamil Nadu would only follow the two-language formula. The legislation was introduced following the suggestions of education experts and not actors. Pawan Kalyan was not even born when the bill was passed in the assembly. He doesn’t know anything about Tamil Nadu politics. He made such statements only to impress the BJP and benefit from it,” Elangovan said.

Adding further, the veteran Tamil leader said that this is not the first time that Tamils have opposed Hindi imposition. “We feel that education in the mother tongue is the best way of training children,” he added. Surprisingly, even Kovai Sathyam, the opposition leader belonging to the AIADMK, opined that Pawan Kalyan has linked business with the cultural fabric of Tamil Nadu and that it is totally different.
