India’s First CM to Consistently Talk About Healthy Eating

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu stressed the need to switch to healthy food habits in the modern days. Yet again, he underscored how the food intake could have a profound change in an individual’s longevity.

He is the first chief minister in the country contently advising people on food habits and explaining how that would impact both the longevity as well as the irrigation practices. A few days ago, he suggested that people should reduce the consumption of salt and oil to lead a healthy life.

Speaking to the TDP leaders, he reminded how people had shifted to consumption of rice after their party founder NT Rama Rao has introduced the Rs 2 kg rice scheme, in drought-hit areas. Now, excessive consumption of rice is leading to diabetes. Earlier, people used to consume jowar or ragi or eggs in breakfast, basing on the availability of the grain.

Naidu proudly said that omlette is the staple in his breakfast as peotein-rich foods help the body in growth. These days, there is a lot of thrust on protein intake and accordingly, eggs or chicken or fish is being consumed.

He then spoke of millets, fruits and vegetables, which help in maintaining a balanced diet. Cultivatuon of fruits, vegetables and millets led to promotion of horticulture, he said.

The shift to these crops gave an impetus to micro irrigation. He proudly proclaimed that Andhra Pradesh leads the country in micro irrigation by growing crops in this method in 16 lakh hectares.

Slowly, micro irrigation has been automated, promoting prudent consumption of water. Farmers can check and control release of water to the crops through an app.

The public is happy that the 75-year-old CM is trying to take good care of the citizens in the state.
