Former Chief Minister YS Jagan faced widespread public criticism for mishandling a crucial and decisive issue like the capital of Andhra Pradesh. While he relentlessly sabotaged the Amaravati project for five years, he failed to implement his controversial “three capitals” plan as well.
In the end, this indecisive governance left Andhra Pradesh without a capital from 2019 to 2024, and the consequences were clearly reflected in the election results, with his party reduced to just 11 seats.
However, it seems that even this humbling defeat hasn’t changed Jagan’s approach to the capital issue. He made a shocking statement today that reinforces his previous stance.
“There is absolutely no point in building Amaravati across such a huge area. There’s no need to spend massive funds and take loans for it. What Chandrababu can simply do is take around 500 acres between Vijayawada and Guntur and build Amaravati there. That would be sufficient.”
The fact that a former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh believes the state’s capital can be built on just 500 acres is shocking many.
After serving as CM for five years, Jagan’s dismissive tone toward the capital project and his 500-acre suggestion is baffling to many observers. Some TDP supporters argue that this very lack of vision and commitment is why Jagan’s party was reduced to just 11 seats in the recent elections.
