It’s well known that the “cycle” symbol represents the Telugu Desam Party. Beyond being an electoral symbol, it holds cultural significance dating back to the era of senior NTR.
Perhaps due to this symbolic weight, YCP cadres have often shown hostility toward the cycle symbol. This was evident during the 2019 elections, when several YCP supporters were seen dismantling and damaging cycles in a bid to mock the TDP.
Surprisingly, this behavior appears to have resurfaced during Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent visit to Ibrahimpatnam for the wedding ceremony of Jogi Ramesh’s son. A few local YCP activists reportedly dragged a cycle along the road and damaged it, seemingly to provoke TDP supporters.
What drew particular criticism this time was the allegation that the cycle belonged to a local child. The public expressed disappointment over this incident, criticizing the unnecessary and aggressive act.
In response, IT Minister Nara Lokesh reacted to the incident, expressing his displeasure. To support the affected family, he reportedly instructed local TDP workers to provide a new cycle to the child and also called for appropriate police action.
