Current Bill Fiasco: AP Minister Reacts Quickly

Adequate power billing is crucial for any state government to maintain a stable relationship with the public. This is one of the crucial factors that determines the public perception on the government. The logic is so simple that people are always happy when the power bills are lower and on the other hand, they turn anguished if the bills are high. 

Coming to the topic, now, the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has witnessed its first hiccup with regard to power billing this month. All of a sudden, there are several posts about escalated power bills this month and the social media feed is loaded with such posts. 

However, Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar was very swift to react to this situation as he promised to bring the situation under control in just a day’s time. 

It has come to our attention that the bill has been increased with the smart meter. I have instructed the officials to immediately conduct an inquiry into the performance of the smart meters at the field level and submit a comprehensive report by Monday. 

We will definitely study the performance of the smart meters in detail and we will take appropriate steps to prevent high bills. 

The minister further assured that “no one will be burdened with a single rupee in the name of electricity bills. This is a responsible government that is accountable to the people.”

The minister faulted the functioning of the new smart meters for the mishap and said the issue would be sorted by Monday itself which is an effective timeline. This must solve the issue on immediate basis and subsequently wipe away public negativity in a rather quick fashion.
