No More Ration Rice In Mid-Day-Meal For Students!

The students in government institutions, from Class I to Intermediate, can look forward to consuming quality rice in the afternoon, when mid-day meal scheme would be implemented. The state government has decided to replace ration rice with fine rice in the mid-day meal scheme. For this, it is estimated that over 95,509 tonne of fine rice is necessary.

According to reports, fine rice rice bags had already reached the schools, scheduled to reopen on June 12, after the summer vacation. Each bag would bear a QR code, to avoid misuse. Fine rice will be cooked and served to the children in the schools and hostels from the first day of the academic year itself. For this, the managements of the government schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayalu, Netaji Subhash Chandrabose Aawasa Vidyalayalu and other hostels have made necessary arrangements.

It is estimated that students from class 1-5 would need 100 gms rice per meal, from classes 6-10 150 gms, Inter students nearly 200 gms. Over 32,65,635 students are benefiting from the scheme in the state. According to the calculations, over 75,400 metric tonnes of rice would be necessary for one year.

In addition, each student in KGBV would need 500 gm rice. There are 1,19,560 girl students in KGBVs which means they would require 19,727 metric tonne of rice. Each student in Netaji Subhash Chandrabose Awasia Vidyalayas and hostels would consume 15 kg of rice per month.

There are 2,095 students in these schools which means there will be a requirement of 382 metric tonnes. Schools will be supplied with 25-kg rice bags. Basing on the number of students, an automatic indent would be generated. Earlier, rice used to be supplied by the ration shops but now the MSL points of the civil supplies department would supply the rice to the schools.

When the rice bags are supplied to the schools, the respective headmaster should scan the QR code on the bag and also collect the opinion on the quality of the sanna biyyam and give rating.
