In politics, compliments from rivals are rare and when they do come, they carry real weight. Such a moment unfolded on Thursday in Telangana, when BJP senior leader and Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy openly praised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in a public forum, drawing attention and applause from all sides.
The event, held to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse, brought together leaders from multiple parties, including the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP. Both Konda and CM Revanth were present, representing their respective positions one as a Member of Parliament, the other as the state’s Chief Minister.
During his speech, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy took everyone by surprise with his glowing remarks about Revanth Reddy. He spoke not of politics or policy, but of Revanth’s personal habits and discipline. Konda noted that Revanth has never smoked a cigarette, never tasted beer, and has kept himself far away from drugs or any kind of substance abuse, a rare quality in public life.
“He’s one of the few politicians I know who leads a clean, disciplined life,” Konda said. “Revanth is a cool-headed leader who prefers playing football to blowing off steam in other ways.” The praise struck a chord with the audience, and the gathering responded with loud cheers and applause.
Revanth, visibly moved by the unexpected appreciation from across the political aisle, responded humbly, by folding his hands and bowing in acknowledgment.
