In a surprising legal development, a criminal case has been filed against Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan. What has caught everyone’s attention is that the case was not filed in Andhra Pradesh, but in Tamil Nadu. This has left many, especially his supporters, wondering how a sitting Deputy Chief Minister could face such charges outside his home state.
The issue traces back to a public gathering called Murugan Manadu, held last month in Madurai and organized by the BJP Tamil Nadu unit. While Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was expected to attend but skipped the event, Pawan Kalyan went ahead and delivered a powerful speech. During his address, he made strong remarks targeting what he called pseudo secularists, which some interpreted as provocative.
Since then, Pawan returned to Andhra Pradesh and immersed himself in governance. However, on Tuesday, a Chennai based lawyer filed a complaint at the Anna Nagar Police Station in Chennai. He alleged that Pawan’s speech at the religious gathering violated public speech norms. Based on this complaint, the police registered a criminal case under multiple sections, including charges related to promoting disharmony on religious and regional grounds.
The situation has drawn wider attention due to Pawan’s growing importance in national politics. As a key partner in the NDA alliance, Pawan is being seen as a major face for BJP in the southern states. The party has increasingly involved him in major events across the region, hoping to leverage his following to strengthen its presence.
Now, with this FIR in place, the spotlight shifts to how this case progresses and whether it poses any political implications for Pawan Kalyan or the NDA’s broader strategy in the south.
