Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy is widely regarded for his fearless and dynamic attitude, and he proved it again today by entering Osmania University. Incidentally, Revanth is the first chief minister in the last 20 years to set foot on the historic OU campus.
Revanth Reddy delivered a powerful speech during his visit. He is also the first chief minister of Telangana to directly address the university, unlike former CM KCR, who attempted to do so in 2017 but backed off due to student criticism.
It is important to note that OU students played a historic role in spearheading the Telangana statehood movement, even sacrificing their lives and careers for the cause. Yet, during the 10 years of BRS rule, none of its leaders, including former CM KCR, visited the campus to interact with students. In fact, KCR only attended the OU centenary celebrations in 2017, entering from the Tarnaka main road without stepping inside or addressing the students.
During today’s visit, Revanth inaugurated two new hostels built at a cost of ₹80 crore, providing accommodation for 1,200 students. He also laid the foundation stone for two more hostels that will house another 300 students, funded by the Tribal Welfare Department.
Additionally, Revanth launched several new initiatives, including financial assistance for students travelling abroad, the CM Research Fellowship, and a state-of-the-art digital library reading room built at a cost of ₹10 crore.
While addressing the gathering, Revanth also confirmed that Professor Kodandaram would be nominated again to the Legislative Council by appointing him as an MLC. He further assured that the university campus would soon be free of heavy police presence, stating that educational institutions should not be subjected to external security forces.
