The Andhra Pradesh government is getting ready for a huge event where three lakh families will move into their new homes on the same day. This is part of the government’s promise to give houses to the poor.
In just 17 months, the government has completed and handed over these houses to eligible families under the “Housing for All” program. CM Chandrababu Naidu launched the event virtually from Devagudipalli village in Rayachoti mandal of Annamayya district. He will talk to beneficiaries and distribute the house keys symbolically.
Under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY), 3,00,192 houses have been completed across Andhra Pradesh. These include 2,28,034 houses under PMAY–BLC, 65,292 under PMAY–Gramin, and 6,866 under PMAY–Janman. All these houses are ready, and families will perform the Gruhapravesam (housewarming) at the same time across the state.
The government’s sand policy helped people get up to 20 tonnes of sand for free, which made construction faster and cheaper for beneficiaries.
Since 2014, the TDP government has built about eight lakh houses. Continuing that work, the present NDA government completed three lakh houses in 17 months. The previous government had cancelled over 4.7 lakh sanctioned houses and stopped payments to more than 2.7 lakh families, delaying progress. The new government cleared those pending bills and restarted the projects, bringing relief to poor families.
Chandrababu Naidu said that giving a home to every poor family is a top priority. More houses are being built and will be handed over soon. Ministers and public representatives across districts will join the celebrations, making this a proud day for Andhra Pradesh.
