CII Summit in Vizag Becomes India’s First Zero-Waste Event

The CII Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam is creating history as India’s first-ever zero-waste event, marking a major milestone for the city and the nation. This initiative ensures that every bit of waste generated will be reused or recycled, with nothing sent to landfills or released into the environment.

The summit, attended by around 3,000 delegates from India and across the world, aims to attract large investments and create new job opportunities in Andhra Pradesh. The event is jointly organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), and the Swachh Andhra Corporation.

To achieve the zero-waste goal, organizers have set up special composting units, waste segregation counters, and tie-ups with authorized recyclers. Plastic use is completely banned at the venue. Instead, participants are using biodegradable cups and plates, glass and clay containers, and reusable serving materials. Event banners are made of cloth or shown on digital screens, while QR codes replace printed materials to minimize paper waste.

This initiative demonstrates responsible event management at a national scale. The zero-waste model promotes environmental protection, public health, and sustainable living, proving that large-scale events can be conducted without harming the planet.

The transformation has been made possible by the visionary leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his focus on sustainability through programs like Swachh Andhra and Swarna Andhra. The summit follows a circular economy policy, where all materials are reused or recycled, reflecting how effective policies and collaboration between government, industry, and the community can create lasting change.

The CII Summit in Vizag stands as an inspiring example for other cities and organizations, showing that sustainability and growth can go hand in hand, and moving India closer to its long-term environmental and economic goals.
