The ongoing Indigo crisis has created a lot of noise in the aviation sector, and Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has found himself at the centre of media attention. Many North-based media outlets have criticised him for allegedly mishandling the situation, often projecting the entire episode as a political failure. Many doubt on the hidden agenda on targeting naidu, since no media criticised BJP which is at centre but personally targeting Naidu and its party TDP.
However, the situation deserves a closer and calmer understanding. Since taking charge, Ram Mohan Naidu has already faced one of the most difficult aviation challenges in recent times, the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. It was a moment of national shock and a true test for the aviation ministry.
Instead of suppressing facts or delaying accountability, Ram Mohan Naidu ensured that the investigation report was completed in record time. Despite pressure from the airline, he made the report public, showing transparency and responsibility towards passengers and the families of victims.
This approach is not accidental. The TDP, under the leadership of Babu, has always stressed ethics, systems and rule-based governance which has always been visible in AP governance during his terms. Whether in administrative reforms, infrastructure modernization or industrial policy, CBN’s philosophy has focused on discipline, service delivery and accountability.
Ram Mohan Naidu appears to be following the same path. In the current Indigo matter, he is insisting that the airline follow aviation rules, passenger safety norms and operational guidelines without shortcuts. His stand is not against any corporate group but in favour of long-term aviation safety in India. For a fast-growing aviation ecosystem, rules must apply equally to every airline and regulatory enforcement is essential to avoid any future tragic air crashes.
Not just that, he promised that air travel will become affordable in India after getting the cabinet position and the first thing he does after this is that he starts the Udaan Yatri cafe scheme which addressed the issue of overpriced food and beverages at the airports and provide affordable food to the travellers like a cup of tea or coffee in just 20 rupees.
However, the Noida media seems to have another plan instead of blaming indigo and the NDA government for their shortcomings that led to this crisis as a result, the aviation industry has become a duopoly with only two major aviation firms like Air India and Indigo ruling the sector.
Thanks to Ram Mohan Naidu, who called out these shortcomings openly in the Lok Sabha and in fact gave an invitation for any other companies to come and invest in the aviation sector, If this reform happens and the duopoly is broken, Ram Mohan Naidu could become the best aviation minister the nation has seen and India’s aviation industry may become more safer, more efficient and more transparent in the coming years.
