New Year – New Era of Governance in Andhra Pradesh

For the last few days, there has been serious talk about the new district reorganization in Andhra, leading to many discussions and the issuance of GOs in this regard. Separate notifications were issued for the creation of Markapuram and Polavaram districts, along with decisions on district headquarters.

Rampachodavaram has been notified as the headquarters of Polavaram district, while Madanapalle has been confirmed as the headquarters of Annamayya district. With these notifications, the total number of districts in Andhra Pradesh has increased to 28.

Importantly, officials for the newly created districts were also appointed immediately, showing how quick and ready the government is for faster implementation of the reforms. 

The reforms focus on reorganising districts, revenue divisions, and mandals to improve administrative efficiency. As per the GOs, Annamayya district will have three revenue divisions Madanapalle, Pileru, and Rayachoti with a total of 25 mandals.

Polavaram district will have two revenue divisions Rampachodavaram and Chinturu with 11 mandals. The newly carved Markapuram district will have two revenue divisions, Markapuram and Kanigiri, comprising 21 mandals.

In addition, notifications were also issued for the creation of five new revenue divisions and changes in mandal boundaries approved by the Cabinet as part of the wider district reorganisation.

These administrative changes play an important role in supporting the State’s Industrial Policy 4.0 and investment plans. Industry approvals, land administration, infrastructure coordination, and monitoring of industrial parks all operate at the district and revenue division level.

Smaller, better-managed districts help speed up clearances, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure smoother implementation of projects linked to ports, highways, logistics parks, and industrial corridors.

Importantly, Babu has repeatedly underlined that this district change is not a political exercise, but a purely administrative reform that was needed. The objective is system correction through aligning governance structures with development needs and industrial corridors laid out earlier.

By strengthening the administrative backbone, the government aims to create a stable, predictable environment for long-term growth. As the New Year begins, these reforms reflect a clear focus on efficiency, execution and development rather than politics.
