The devastating Karur stampede, which occurred in September last year during his maiden political rally and resulted in death of 41 supporters, continues to haunt actor turned politician Thalapathy Vijay.
According to the latest reports, Central Bureau of Investigation has summoned the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam ( TVK) party chief for inquiry into the unfortunate incident due to the allegations that security guidelines were flouted while organising such a massive public rally without taking adequate measures for safety.
In the notice issued by CBI, Vijay was directed to attend questioning at the agency headquarters in New Delhi on January 12th. Interestingly, this development comes when Vijay is awaiting the release of farewell film Jana Nayagan which is slated to hit the screens on January 9th.
Hearing a plea filed by TVK party on October 13th last year, the Supreme Court has ordered a CBI probe into the tragedy which has sent shock waves across the country for fair and impartial investigation.
The Court had set up a three member committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi to review the progress of inquiry.
The CBI has already questioned several TVK party officials in connection with this case. With Vijay getting the notices now, the case might take a serious turn in the coming days.
