A major political development has taken place in Telangana with the resignation of Kalvakuntla Kavitha from her MLC post. The Telangana Legislative Council Chairman, Gutha Sukender Reddy, has officially accepted her resignation.
Kavitha, a former leader of the BRS and daughter of KCR, had been away from party activities for several months. In September 2025, the BRS leadership suspended her from the party, following which she also lost her primary membership. Kavitha’s last speech in the Council turned emotional, during which she broke down and made some staggering allegations against the BRS and its leaders.
Amid these developments, Kavitha chose to step down from her MLC position, citing moral responsibility. She personally met the Legislative Council Chairman and submitted her resignation letter, requesting immediate acceptance. After examining the rules, the Chairman approved her resignation.
Kavitha was elected unopposed as an MLC from the Nizamabad Local Bodies quota in 2022 and still had a remaining term. However, changing political circumstances led to her decision to quit the post before completing her tenure.
With her resignation now accepted, the Nizamabad MLC seat has officially fallen vacant. The Election Commission is expected to announce a by election for the seat in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Kavitha’s future political plans have become a topic of discussion.
