Any government needs flexibility to understand public mood. Following rules without relaxation can sometimes reduce public happiness. Keeping this in view, the Andhra Pradesh government took a people friendly approach during the Sankranti festival.
Traditional activities like cockfighting were allowed with minimal interference. In the past, strict restrictions during the YCP government had dampened festival spirit, especially in rural areas. Learning from that phase, the present government avoided unnecessary controls while acting firmly against excesses.
The government also gave permission for large scale celebrations in cities. As a result, places like Guntur and Vijayawada saw vibrant Sankranti events. Liquor shops were allowed to remain open till midnight for three days, adding to the festive mood for many.
Despite minor criticism, the government managed a balance between public enjoyment and law and order. Many people felt the festive atmosphere truly returned this year.
Public opinion suggests that Andhra Pradesh witnessed heavy inflow of people from Hyderabad during Sankranti. Adding to the cheer, the success of Sankranti film releases doubled the celebrations, making this festival season one of the most joyful in recent years across the state.
