Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu recently addressed in a meeting with Europe’s Telugu Diaspora about improving international flight connections for AP, especially for people who live abroad (NRIs) and able to visit home only during festivals.
One of the most important ideas he mentioned recently is the possibility of direct flights from Europe to the various cities in AP like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and the rest of South India. This would be a big relief for many NRIs, who currently have to travel through Delhi, Mumbai or Gulf countries before reaching home.
The government has also taken steps to improve travel within the states. Earlier, morning flights between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam were stopped, causing inconvenience to many passengers. These flights have now been restored.
Another major development is the progress of the Bhogapuram International Airport near Visakhapatnam, which is now close to completion. The minister also reviewed plans for new airports in places like Dagadarthi, Kuppam and Palasa, thus indicating efforts from the central and state government to develop the necessary aviation infrastructure required.
If direct flights from Europe become a reality, it will not just help NRIs. It can attract more tourists, bring foreign companies to the state, and give the state more visibility at a global level. For a state that is growing quickly and wants to play a bigger role in India’s economy, better air connectivity can become a major turning point.
As AP continues to expand its airports and routes, the hope is that international travel will soon become easier, faster and more comfortable for everyone.
