AP’s Pithapuram handloom community has received heartening news: a proposal for a ₹15 crore Special Handloom Development Project has been sent to the Central Government. For a town known for its rich weaving tradition, this move brings hope and renewed confidence to thousands of families who depend on this craft for their livelihood.

For generations, the weavers of Pithapuram have carried forward a legacy of skill, patience, and cultural pride. Yet, despite their hard work, many have struggled with low incomes, limited market access, and rising production costs. The sector has long needed focused attention and structured support. 

This proposed project is a timely step in that direction. This special initiative is expected to improve infrastructure, provide better technology, and strengthen marketing support so that handloom products can reach wider markets.
