The opposition leaders of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, YS Jagan and KCR respectively have this very peculiar approach when it comes to attending the Assembly sessions. They have made it a habit to attend the Assembly only for attendance sake once or twice a year.
This topic came to discussion in Telangana Assembly today as chief minister Revanth Reddy called for a discussion on whether the House must continue to pay salaries to MLAs who aren’t attending the sessions.
Revanth Reddy pointed out that KCR has received a total of ₹1.06 crore in salary even without attending the assembly sessions after losing 2023 election. He questioned the dignity of KCR for not attending the Assembly session, but still receiving the salary every month.
The chief minister then opined that it is time for the house to debate whether they must stop paying salaries to MLAs who are not attending these sessions regularly. He called for strict measures against the same.
This is a pretty valid point raised by the Telangana chief minister, as it might not be morally right on the part of KCR to receive over ₹1 crore in salary while staying away from the assembly.
