Andhra Pradesh is preparing for a historic day today as the resolution to announce Amaravati as the permanent capital of the state is coming to discussion in the Parliament today. But this does not appear to be in the best interests of YS Jagan, who had been looking down on Amaravati for a long time.
After having a blatantly ignored the Amaravati capital prospect during his time as the CM, Jagan still appears to be unchanged about his stance on the capital even after the brutal verdict in 2024.
Speaking about the Amaravati capital project today, Jagan said “There is no such thing as a state capital in the constitution. It is only mentioned that a country needs a capital. There is no place for registered and permanent state capital in the Constitution.”
Jagan added that Chandrababu and his government presented a bill in the assembly to make an amendment to the law and name Amravati capital but this isn’t permanent by any means. “ If they could bring a resolution to change the law, then why can’t others bring another resulting and change it further” Jagan said as he implied that the legislation of Amaravati can be altered by his government in the future.
But there is a crucial point that must be noted here, considering the Amaravati bill is likely to be passed in the Parliament today. Once this bill is passed in the Parliament, Amaravati will stand legal binding in the AP Recognition act.
If Jagan decides to change this in the future, he will have to approach the Parliament again, and this would blatantly expose his grudge on the Amaravati region which could lead to further public backlash.
For now, political analyst are unable to understand or comprehend why Jagan is reluctant towards Amaravati as his hate towards the region got exposed agin today as he hinted about changing the legislation regarding the capital again.
Jagan stated that Chandrababu is cheating the people of Andhra Pradesh, broad daylight and he is using Amaravati to shadow the same. “Chandrababu will perhaps spent the rest of his life building, roads, and drainage is in Amaravati” Jagan said on a sarcastic note as he ridiculed Babu.
If this is going to be Jagan’s stand on this matter, then even YCP leaders can’t control the damage that can be done with this capital sentiment. This could potentially push YCP completely away from the urban and educated voters which could prove to be very consequential in the next election.
