Iran Threatens To Close Strait of Hormuz Again ?

Just as things appearing to be positive since Friday because the Strait of Hormuz has been completely opened by Iran for all commercial ships due to the ongoing negotiations with USA, another bad news seems imminent going by the latest reports in the global media.

According to the latest reports, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf warned that Strait of Hormuz will be closed as a response to what he calls as fake claims by US President Donald Trump. He threatened that the pivotal waterway will not remain open if the blockade by US forces continue further. 

Qalibaf alleged that the US President made seven false claims in an hour and warned that such lies would yield no success in war or negotiations, and cautioned that the Strait of Hormuz would not remain open if the blockade continues. His statements come after Trump has made several claims on his social media platform and interactions with leading media outlets. 

Qalibaf further noted that the status of the strait and its governing regulations would be determined by actions on the ground rather than social media declarations. He made it clear that Strait of Hormuz will be regulated under Tehran’s authorisation and that ships can pass only through the designated route. 

On Friday, Iran announced that it fully reopened the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels. This news gave a huge sigh of relief to many countries across the globe. But Trump said the American blockade on Iranian ships and ports will remain in full force until Tehran reaches a deal with the U.S., including on its nuclear program.

Iranian officials in response said the blockade was a violation of last week’s ceasefire agreement between the two countries. They warned that strait will not remain open if the US continues to dictate terms. 

The reopening of Strait came as a welcome development for many countries including India which witnessed a huge disruption of energy resources. But, if it is closed again, the situation will turn more worse.
