Naidu Breaks The Silence On Revanth’s ‘GDP’ Proposal

Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy has the highest respect for his former boss at TDP and current CM of AP, Chandrababu Naidu. But they appear to have a difference in opinion with regard to the delimitation drive that’s set in motion by the NDA government.

Incidentally, Revanth Reddy proposed an alternative vision to the delimitation drive as he pointed that states must be reallocated electoral quota based on a combination of population and GDP as opposed to solely population.

Revanth Reddy stated that the delimitation must be held on a prorate basis where a state’s MP seats must be based 50% on population and 50% by its GDP. This is a strong suggestion made by the Telangana CM with the strong GDPs of South Indian states in mind.

When this topic was brought to discussion in front of Chandrababu Naidu, he had a completely contradictory approach.

Chandrababu said the reformer of the Constitution, BR Ambedkar was very particular about having one single vote to each person regardless of his status.

“The poor and needy must have the same vote which has as much value as the vote of a rich person. The same logic must be applied to rich and poor states as well. How can we differentiate a poor state while prioritising a richer state? The Constitution does not work that way.” Chandrababu said.

This exchange between Babu and Revanth Reddy looks more like political affiliated ones that reflect NDA and Congress’s opinions rather than individual views or interests.

While both of them have strong points to make, the crucial indicator here is that the proposed delimitation linked women’s reservation bill that was introduced in the Lok Sabha has failed anyway. All eyes are now on the census based delimitation that could be happening anytime post 2026.
