DCM Becomes Opposition Leader: Can He Deliver?

After having enjoyed surplus power for five years, the DMK faced humiliating defeat in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election. While the work ethic of Stalin was not too bad, the people of Tamil Nadu were clearly with Thalapathy Vijay as they elected TVK to power.

The discussion is about Udayanidhi Stalin, who used to operate as the deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu under his father Stalin’s Government. He enjoyed a lot of power during his father’s administration and gained the reputation of being a loudmouth.

There were multiple occasions when Uday made problematic comments on Sanathan Dharma, which did not go well with the Hindu groups. In fact, he even vowed to eliminate Sanathan Dharma from Tamil Nadu. These wild comments did not just ruin his own reputation, but also built a negative image for the party in the public.

The clear indication that was given by Uday is that he is a radical thinker, which is never a good sign in South Indian politics. To make matters worse, Uday is now handed with the additional responsibility of leading the DMK in the absence of his father Stalin.

Stalin ended up losing the election from Kolathur Assembly constituency, and he will not be entering the Assembly this term. So in his absence, it is Uday who will be leading the DMK in the Assembly.

Ironically enough, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu Thalapathy Vijay is a cinema star and also the opposition leader Uday had a brief run in Tamil cinema as a hero. But the big question here is how Uday would take up this challenge of leading a historical party like TVK with his attitude.
