The long awaited greater Hyderabad principal Corporation elections are confirmed to be held soon, and the stage is being set for the same at political level. The ruling Congress is leading the race in terms of favourite to grab the majority of the seats within the city while BJP is looking to set a strong record from the earlier 2020 results.
After putting up a surprisingly good performance in 2020 GHMC polls, BJP took this momentum into the 2023 assembly and 2025 MP polls, everyone thought they’d consolidate it further by collabing with their AP allies TDP and JSP for a stronger grip in the city in 2026 GHMC polls.
On that note, Modi’s recent meeting with Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan led to speculations that a potential tie up for GHMC polls might be on this time as well.
But that simply doesn’t appear to be the case now. Latest developments are suggesting that the BJP has collectively decided to go solo in the upcoming GHMC election.
This could be a significant blow to the JSP which had earlier quit 2020 GHMC polls even after announcing candidates in many areas out of the alliance pressure from BJP. And now that JSP consolidated the alliance in AP, they would’ve expected a helping hand from BJP in this year’s GHMC polls.
But with BJP deciding to go solo, JSP might have to think twice again with regard to contesting the polls as BJP wouldn’t want their ally from AP to eat away their votes in Hyderabad. So, the JSP might have to sit out this term’s GHMC polls as well, which is against the aspiration of Kalyan to develop the party in Telangana.
But even if JSP contests the civic polls in Hyderabad, the outcome could be detrimental considering the already tough fight between Congress, BRS and BJP.
