Revanth Reddy’s Vizag Statement Triggers Huge Debate

Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy is a very outspoken politician, and his approach towards public policy making is very straightforward without much sugar coating. This was again on display today as he appeared to slip a few words about Vizag Metro.

While speaking with the media regarding the next phase of Hyderabad Metro extension, Revanth Reddy said the combined area of Jubilee Hills and Madhapur is bigger than all of Vizag, but somehow the center has approved Vizag Metro while rejecting Hyderabad metro extension.

This comment from Revanth Reddy has immediately triggered a wide range of reactions on social media with many people commenting that this is a wrong comment at the wrong time.

Revanth Reddy has every right to express his disappointment with the Centre for not cooperating with Hyderabad Metro extension, but dragging neighbouring state’s Vizag into this is uncalled for.

A few people on social media commenting that the corporation area of Vizag is even bigger than the Corporation area of Hyderabad, which speaks for itself. “Visakhapatnam (GVMC): ~681 sq km Hyderabad (GHMC) Area: ~650 sq km. Vizag Steel plant area >>Madhapur & Jubilee Hills.” A post read.

The obvious intention of Revanth Reddy would have been to express the disappointment with the centre for not approving the Hyderabad extension despite the desperate efforts. The neutral is that he could have chosen better choice of words and comparison than going after Vizag which was uninvited and litigative in nature.

There is already intense political tension between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana following Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s meeting row and the subsequent discussions and controversial debates. Now, Revanth Reddy appears to have added more fuel to the fire.
