One of the most infamous practices of the previous YSRCP government was the alleged misuse of the Andhra Pradesh Police Department for political purposes. Ironically, one of the victims of this was YSRCP MP Raghu Rama Krishna Raju himself.
The case related to the alleged custodial torture of RRR has now reached the Andhra Pradesh High Court, where the bench made some strong observations on Thursday.
The court remarked that it was shocking and unacceptable that a sitting MP was subjected to custodial torture while the investigating officer was fully aware of the developments. These observations came while hearing the anticipatory bail petition filed by IPS officer Sunil Kumar, one of the key accused in the case.
The court noted that allegations regarding Raghu Rama’s custodial torture had surfaced even before his arrest. It further observed that Sunil Kumar, given his senior position, should have ensured that such incidents did not occur.
The hearing took a dramatic turn when the court reportedly remarked that there was no difference between the custodial torture of Raghu Rama Krishna Raju and an attack on Parliament. The court appeared to stress the seriousness of the allegations and the gravity of the incident.
The bench then asked Sunil Kumar whether he was prepared to surrender or wished to continue pursuing anticipatory bail. In response, he sought some time before giving his decision.
