Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited film King has landed a massive overseas distribution deal, surprising one and all. As per Bollywood reports, Phars Films has acquired the overseas rights to King for a record Rs. 175 crore. (Conditions applied)
Not many know, but King was initially set to be distributed overseas by Yash Raj Films. However, Phars Films made an offer that the makers could not refuse. The deal is historic, as no Indian film has secured an overseas deal of even Rs. 100 crore to date.
With this deal, Phars Films will handle the Middle East market and sell individual overseas territories to sub-distributors. Markets such as North America and the UK could also see changes in distribution.
Having said this, to recover its investment, King needs to collect around $48-50 million overseas. This will not be an easy task, especially with major Hollywood films like Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part Three, and Jumanji competing during the Christmas season.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Suhana Khan in key roles and is scheduled for a December 24 release. The record deal once again proves how big a star SRK is.
