The inauguration of the Bhogapuram International Airport turned into more than just a major infrastructure event. It also became a political stage, with TDP leaders reviving one of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s old remarks to target the YSRCP chief.
Several years ago, while questioning the need for an airport at Bhogapuram, Jagan had remarked that even RTC’s Erra Buses did not reach the area and questioned the need for an airport. That old comment has now returned to the political spotlight after the airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the public meeting, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Minister Nara Lokesh all took indirect swipes at Jagan. Without naming him, they said some leaders had once claimed that not even Erra Buses would come to Bhogapuram. They then said the NDA government had gone a step further by bringing Airbuses to the region.
The remarks drew loud cheers from the crowd and quickly became one of the biggest talking points of the event.
NDA leaders used the airport inauguration to highlight what they called their vision for North Andhra. They said the airport would improve connectivity, boost tourism, attract investments and create thousands of employment opportunities.
The “Erra Bus to Airbus” comparison has now gone viral on social media, with TDP supporters using it to counter Jagan’s earlier criticism of the Bhogapuram airport project.
