Lokesh Busts Myths On Data Centre Water Usage In Vizag

Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh has given a much-needed clarification on the water requirement of upcoming data centres in Visakhapatnam.

Lokesh clarified in the council that the water required for the upcoming data centres will be met from the industrial allocation of Polavaram water. He made it clear that the water meant for city residents will not be diverted for these projects.

The clarification comes at a time when several environmentalists and groups have held public rallies and raised concerns over the water requirements of data centres coming up in Vizag.

Lokesh also explained the importance of the data centre investments for Visakhapatnam. He said several top multinational companies and IT companies are now looking at Vizag after Google announced its massive USD 15 billion AI data centre campus and digital hub in the city.

Interestingly, people in areas such as Tarluvada, Rambilli and Adavivaram/Mudasarlova are reportedly welcoming the development and saying that Google’s investment has brought recognition to their areas. There have been no major objections from people in these areas over the development.

Lokesh took quality time in the House to explain the issue in detail and clear the doubts surrounding the water supply for data centres. His clarification is expected to address some of the concerns raised in recent days.

Even some of Lokesh’s critics are appreciating his efforts to clearly explain the issue in the House and provide clarity on an important matter linked to Vizag’s future development.
