Narendra Modi Government is easily one of the Most Popular Governments in Independent India. Winning three times in a row is not an easy feat. But then, they seem to be losing connection with the Public somehow.
The other day, the Government decided to impose MDR Charges on UPI. The Government says there will be charges for payments above 2,000 Rupees only in the case of Merchants and there will be no impact on the Customers.
But in India, it is obvious that the Merchants will pass it on to the Customers.
The Public is of the opinion that this always happens in India. Something will be pushed hard saying it is free and once people get accustomed to it, they will be charged for it.
The Government is making savings on printing cash when people are using UPI. The Windfall can easily cover the costs of UPI. People feel the Government is still pushing the burden on them.
This is not just an isolated incident. People are recently upset about the Government pushing E20 fuel without offering an alternative.
Even on that issue, the Government is adamant about the implementation. It did not do enough to clear the Public’s apprehensions and the responses from some Ministers made things even worse.
These incidents are giving rise to doubts if the Government has lost its connect with the Public.
