After a bitter legal battle with the Andhra Pradesh state government, State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar released the schedule for local body elections. The election process would begin from January 23, 2021 and the elections would be held in four phases.
On January 23, notification for the first phase of elections would be issued. On January 27, the notification for the second phase would be released, on January 31 for the third phase and on February 4, the notification for the 4th phase would be issued.
On February 5, the first phase of panchayat elections would be held, on February 9, the second phase, on February 13 the third phase and on February 17, the fourth phase of elections would be conducted.
The model code of conduct for local body elections would come into force from January 9, 2021.
The notification was released after the High Court directed three Principal Secretary-level officials to meet Ramesh Kumar a few days ago. The court also clarified that Ramesh Kumar would tell the officials where they should meet him.
