Mood of the Nation: NDA To Retain Power

The BJP-led NDA would retain power at the Centre even if elections were held in short notice, revealed a national survey — Mood of the Nation, held by India Today-Karvy.

In fact, an anti-BJP wave should be prevailing in the entire nation given the border disputes with China and Pakistan, farmers’ agitation in New Delhi, lopsided economic policies and inept handling of Covid-19 crisis.

However, the survey revealed that people are still favouring the BJP. The survey report said that NDA would secure 321 MP seats, garnering 43 per cent of the vote share.

In an earlier survey held in August 2020, it was found that NDA would bag 316 MP seats. In the latest survey, the number rose by another 5 seats. However, it should be pertinent to note that the survey indicates NDA would lose 36 seats of the 357 seats, the coalition government secured in 2019.

The India Today-Karvy survey also stated that in the northern states, where Hindi and Hindutva politics have significance, the NDA would secure 104 seats, 85 seats in Western India. If the BJP can forge more alliances making smart moves, it can gain 100 seats in Eastern India too. But the survey revealed that Modi cannot wield his magic wand and allure the voters in Southern India.

In the western states, the NDA might gain a meagre 32 seats, the survey said.

Coming to the southern states, Karnataka is the only place where the BJP has some foothold. Even here, the party has been winning once and losing the next time in the Assembly elections while continuing to languish, when it came to the Parliamentary elections.

In Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Naidu and Telangana, the BJP is not able to make foray into the strongholds of the regional parties.

At present, in Telangana, the BJP has 4 MPs but there is doubt if these numbers can be retained in the next polls.

As per the survey, the BJP can gain MP seats only in Karnataka in the next Parliamentary elections. There is absolutely no chance for the party to gain at least one seat in AP, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
