No Lockdown: Telangana Is The Only State!

As India is grappling with the precarious second wave of the coronavirus, several states have imposed complete lockdown and partial lockdown. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has extended the lockdown till May 10 keeping in mind the uncontrollable cases in the state. Delhi is under lockdown since April 19.

Next, we have Maharashtra which is under lockdown till May 15 amid the Covid-19 crisis. The state was also on partial lockdown from last month and the decision of extension was taken by the state cabinet on April 28. And before we talk about other states lockdown, we need special mention of Telangana because it is the only state in the whole country with no kind of lockdown at all.

Confirming on lockdown in the state, Telangana Chief Minister KCR gave a crystal clear statement that the state will witness no lockdown as it would bring life to a standstill and lead to the total collapse of the economy. He further added that the reports suggested the intensity of the second wave of coronavirus would come down by May 15. KCR stated that there were over 250,000-300,000 workers from other states working in Telangana and the state could not afford to see them leave, and not return, as had happened during last year’s lockdown.

On the other side, we have partially lockdown Andhra Pradesh where the government announced a state-wide curfew till May 18. The curfew will be in place from 12 noon till 6 am in AP. The other states such as West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka has imposed a lockdown. And Gujarat and Jammu Kashmir imposed partial lockdowns.

India reported 401,078 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the caseload to over 21.8 million. More than 4K plus have died in a single day and which is why many states have been extending their already imposed lockdowns to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
