The hashtag #SaveLakshadweep is trending on top on social media and netizens are wondering what happened in this small island that is drawing national attention. Well there is not just one but too many reasons behind #SaveLakshadweep trend and it’s once again BJP kind of responsible for all the chaos in the island.
It all started with the passing away of administrator Dineshwar Sharma and BJP appointing Praful Khoda Patel. After taking charge Praful brought a shocking rule to exclude non-veg from government schools run canteens’ menu.
Then many sheds and local institutions that were set up to help the fishing community of Lakshadweep were destroyed in the name of road expansion and also Lakshadweep falls in the smart city category.
The biggest of all is enforcing the Gunda Act. Even in 2021, Lakshadweep has the lowest crime rate compared to the whole of India and the jails are most of the times empty. To bring the Gunda Act into existence is a strategy to suppress the voice of people who are opposing new rules.
Outraged by the new rules, people of Lakshadweep are raising their voices. Adding strength to their voice, Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran made a post on social media. He appealed to the administration to work on the concerns of people.
But will Lakshadweep be saved?
