A bill passed allowing teachers to carry guns in schools

Tennessee lawmakers recently passed a bill allowing teachers to carry concealed handguns in schools, amidst protests. The measure, approved 68-28 in the House and earlier in the Senate, follows debates sparked by a deadly Nashville school shooting last year. Advocates argue armed teachers deter potential shooters, while critics fear accidental shootings. About half of US states permit firearms on school grounds; in Tennessee, training and approval processes are required, with identities of armed staff kept private.
